When choosing an antivirus program it is important to know the extent of your computer’s resources this program will consume. The most effective programs will have little impact on the performance of your computer, while still providing excellent protection against viruses and malware.
The majority of antivirus software companies release extensive tests in PDF format. The reports give a quick overview of the protection performance, usability, and performance of each suite. They also include detailed graphs and charts that display the results of certain testing elements. The percentage of malware that is real-world and exposures to reference sets that the program blocks, neutralizes or compromises, along with the amount of false positives that are detected of malicious programs, are crucial figures to keep an eye out for.
In AV-Comparatives’ tests from June 2023, Avast Free Antivirus for Mac had the highest rates of success in blocking Mac malware and PUAs (potentially unwanted applications) and the second-highest score for Windows virus detection. It also scored high in the full-scan, passive and quick-scan categories.
In the category of paid programs, Bitdefender Total Security had the tiniest post-installation background system impact being followed by Kaspersky Total Security and ESET Security Cloud Free. However, it was the slowest in both the full-scan and quick-scan category. The program’s minimal impact on the background may be due to the fact it doesn’t operate as a default program on Windows 10 or 11, as most of its competitors.
Intego had the lowest impact on systems for background scans and full scans, however, it still managed to identify every single piece of malware. It’s a rare business that concentrates solely on Macs and is a valuable addition to any security arsenal.
